Namibian Honeymoon Photo Session

When Charlotte first reached out about a year ago, she already had her heart set on a Namibian Honeymoon photoshoot in Sossusvlei. I had photographed Judith & Zander’s wedding there before, so of course I was immediately excited. I started explaining why this was such a magical choice—but the truth is, she didn’t need much convincing at all. The Namib Desert had already called to them, and they were ready to answer.

Fast forward to two weeks ago: it was finally time to meet in Sesriem, Deadvlei, and Sossusvlei for their honeymoon adventure. The drive there was wrapped in clouds, and I thought little of it—after all, what were the chances of three full days of overcast skies in August? As it turns out, pretty high. We never saw the sun. Ballooning plans were cancelled. No golden sunrises or fiery sunsets over the dunes.

But here’s the unexpected beauty of it: the weather was cool and kind. No scorching heat. No endless bottles of water. No hats or umbrellas needed. Instead, we had long, gentle days to explore and photograph without rushing against the desert sun. Yes, I missed the dramatic contrasts and warm dune colours—but in their place, I found something softer, quieter, and perhaps even more romantic.

As I edited the images later, I fell in love with the muted tones and calm hues. They gave the photos an entirely different kind of beauty—elegant, understated, and timeless. Deadvlei, I discovered, is breathtaking whether the sun shines or not.

Martin & Charlotte’s session is proof that sometimes the desert writes its own story, and it’s always worth capturing. Their honeymoon photos turned into a celebration not only of their love, but also of the quiet, surprising ways Namibia reveals itself.

Why Choose Deadvlei, Sossusvlei & Sesriem Canyon for Your Wedding Photos?

The Namib Desert is one of the most dramatic and unforgettable landscapes in the world, and few places capture its magic like Deadvlei, Sossusvlei, and Sesriem Canyon. Here’s why these locations are worth considering for your wedding or honeymoon photos:

  1. A Timeless, Otherworldly Backdrop

The white clay pan of Deadvlei, dotted with ancient camel thorn trees and framed by towering red dunes, feels like something out of another world. It’s minimal, bold, and breathtaking—your photos will look like fine art, unique to Namibia alone.

  1. Light Like Nowhere Else

Whether the sun is shining or hiding behind soft clouds, the desert delivers. Golden sunrises and sunsets set the dunes on fire, while overcast days give you muted, painterly tones. Either way, the light and colours create wedding photos that feel unforgettable.

  1. The Adventure Factor

Your photoshoot here isn’t just about the images—it’s an experience. From climbing dunes together to walking through the silence of Deadvlei or exploring the winding paths of Sesriem Canyon, the desert becomes part of your love story.

  1. A Private, Intimate Setting

Unlike crowded city venues, Sossusvlei gives you space. Vast, quiet, and powerful, it allows you to be fully present with each other while creating images that are as grand as the landscape itself.

Photos are more than pictures—they’re the stories you’ll pass down. For Martin & Charlotte, Sossusvlei gave them a piece of Namibia to take home forever. If you’re planning your own celebration in Namibia, let’s create the kind of photographs that will become your family’s heirlooms.
