De Brem Family

A Family Session in Sossusvlei

In the weeks leading up to my honeymoon photoshoot in Sossusvlei, I suddenly received another two enquiries in the same area, and I was lucky enough that one of them was for almost the same dates which meant that we could wing it to do both sessions during the same time!

And so, on the afternoon of the 21st, I met up with Amèlie and her family to plan the finer details of their photoshoot the next morning.

As her husband is also an avid photographer and has the most beautiful camera I have seen, we spent some time photographing the dunes while driving into the park. Due to the lovely rains, the area has received this year, there is plenty of grazing which means that the oryx, springbok and ostriches frequently appear from nowhere. Photographing an oryx against the backdrop of these red dunes is simply amazing!

When we arrived in Deadvlei it was considerably busier than the previous day and a lot hotter. With not a breeze to rustle through our hair, we quickly got very red and very hot. The kids of course played with an abundance of energy on the walk into Deadvlei having no idea how far it is or how hot this desert can become. But it also made for some fun photos.

Once in Deadvlei I had to make a dive for the last remaining shade to get a few photos. As Amèlie requested a documentary session I just followed them to document their day in the dunes while also trying to capture these magnificent trees.

From Deadvlei we headed to Sossusvlei for a quick stop and then back to the car park where we said our goodbyes after another well-spent morning in the dunes.
