Some weddings arrive quietly and leave something beautiful behind. Billy and Duanita's wedding was one of them.
Set between the Atlantic Ocean and the wide Namibian sky, their wedding marked more than just the beginning of their marriage. It was also the very first wedding hosted at Myl 50 Pub & Grill in Henties Bay.
Known for its live music events and vibrant atmosphere, Myl 50 opened its doors to an entirely new kind of celebration. What followed was an elegant coastal wedding filled with thoughtful details, warm laughter and the kind of Namibian hospitality that makes guests feel at home.
After several years without photographing a wedding like this along our coastline, it was a welcome reminder that beautiful celebrations don't only belong among Namibia's dunes and mountains. Sometimes, they're waiting just down the road.
There is something wonderfully uncomplicated about getting married on a Namibian beach. No elaborate backdrop is needed when the Atlantic Ocean provides one of its own.
Billy and Duanita exchanged their vows with the sound of crashing waves in the background before wandering barefoot (well, almost!) along the shoreline together. The coast offered one of its softer moods that afternoon, with mist rolling gently over the beach and the dunes fading into the distance.
Their portraits are some of my favourites from the day. There is a quietness to coastal weddings that allows couples simply to be present with one another.
Stepping into the reception felt like walking into a completely different world.
Soft draped fabric flowed across the ceiling, festoon lights added a warm glow overhead and long banquet tables were filled with greenery and glassware. It was difficult to believe this was the venue's very first wedding.
The team transformed the space beautifully while still keeping the relaxed atmosphere that makes coastal Namibian celebrations so memorable. It is easy to imagine intimate weddings, larger celebrations and even destination weddings finding a home here in future.
If this first wedding is anything to go by, Myl 50 has made a memorable entrance into Namibia's wedding industry.
Some of my favourite photographs from a wedding day are often the smallest ones.
Duanita's jewellery, her heirloom-inspired details and her beautiful perfume bottle all told part of their story before the day had even begun. Every element felt carefully chosen without feeling overdone.
The flowers and plants by Little Foot Nursery brought softness and texture to the reception space, while Touch of Serenity created an elegant table setting that perfectly complemented the coastal surroundings.
And as the evening celebrations began, Werner van Zyl kept the dance floor alive while Kathy van Niekerk guided guests through the festivities as MC with warmth and humour.
Namibia is perhaps best known for its desert landscapes, but our coastline offers something entirely different. Henties Bay combines wide open beaches, dramatic Atlantic skies and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere that lends itself beautifully to weddings.
Couples can exchange their vows with the ocean as their backdrop before celebrating only minutes away with family and friends. Whether you're planning an intimate celebration or a larger wedding weekend, Henties Bay offers something increasingly rare: space to breathe.
For local Namibian couples, it's an easy destination without complicated travel arrangements. For international guests, it provides the opportunity to experience Namibia's coastline alongside places like Swakopmund, Sandwich Harbour and the Skeleton Coast.
If you're dreaming of a relaxed coastal wedding in Namibia, Henties Bay offers something beautifully different.
Picture ocean views, soft coastal light, wide-open beaches, and an atmosphere that invites people to slow down and celebrate what matters most.
Whether you're planning an intimate celebration or a larger gathering, Namibia's coastline has far more to offer than many couples realise.
I'd love to help tell your story.
